<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">I told you
guys that I would have a preview for you yesterday, but I was way too excited
to finally welcome Nike into my home. He is adorable, and I hate going to work
now because I have to leave him alone for a few hours of the day. He’s so like
my little brother in the sense that he wants to sleep right under me. In a day,
I’ve already taught him to sit! Yayyy! Now the potty training will be a challenging
road to say the least. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">ANYWAY, let’s
talk football! <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Again, I
heard the blaring speakers from the Jones, and I thought the guys were
practicing in the Jones so I rode my friend’s bike across the street to see if I
could catch some practice time. Come to find out, they were doing sound checks
in the Jones (by the way, THAT JUMBO TRON IS GOING TO BE SICK)! I was kind of
riding around and I noticed I could see the full practice field by sitting on
the side of the bubble where there is a hill. I watched until a staff member
approached me and ask me who I was. When I told him who I was I suppose he went
back to Kliff or somebody and they said it was okay for me watch their closed
practice. Note: I will not be able to watch practice again because I work as a community
assistant at University Pointe and we’re getting ready to renovate all of the
apartments. Pray for me as this can be a trying time, but the money makes it
worth it. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="color: red;">QB</span> – I’ve always
been one to say that the QB race is dead even. After watching one day of practice,
I can honestly say the starter is evident, but the back-up race will be close. I
think Brewer is of course the leader. His poise in the pocket when things break
down along with his experience does make for the idea candidate. Brewer seems
to be way more confident than in the spring. When I say confident, I mean he’s attempting
the throws that he may have second guessed in the spring. That’s coach Kliff’s “<i>no thinking, just play football mentality</i>”
in full effect and I love it. I think he knows he’s going to be the starter, and
if that is true, the back-up QB battle (to me anyway) is going to be very tight
if Brewer is the guy. You can red shirt Webb all season, but if Brewer goes
down and Webb is the next man up, I think this staff will gladly take Webb’s
redshirt. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="color: red;">WR’s</span> –
Dropped balls still seem to be a problem here with the rotation guys. I think
our starters are going to be solid. Yes, I do believe Marquez has improved his
route running skills from what I saw. Yes, Amaro can be the best TE in the
country next year – we’ll see about his attitude during rough times next year. Honestly
there is not much to report from these guys. I will say I do believe that Kliff
has taken more from New England than people believe. This offense (to me) is a
dink-and-dunk style offense implemented with the hurry up. That leads to tired
DB’s – which in turn – leads to a big play down field because of lazy eyes and
slow reads. That’s a simplified way to explain what New England does. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="color: red;">Offensive
Line</span> – I know that guys have gone on the record and said that this offense is
going to surprise some people (Kerry Hyder), but I just don’t see it yet. I
know I have not seen them progress from spring to now, but from what I saw at
that practice, it seemed like Coach Wally’s attacking defense almost always got
the upper hand on the line. On more plays than not, our QB’s were on the move
or simply just Manziel’ed it for a nice gain because the pocket collapsed very
quickly. This goes back to why I’m leaning on Brewer more than I was before. He
seems like someone who can handle the break downs, whereas Webb panics a
little. On a side note, I do believe this O-line will be okay for the season
because I have not seen any other Big 12 schools’ defense look at complex as
this one. Will it be picked up eventually, of course, but in the meantime,
expect this defense to make some early conference noise. <i><u>LET ME GO ON THE RECORD</u></i> and say that I believe the season
will be determined by these guys!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Defensive
Line – This is one area where I am not an expert to be honest. I think these
guys have a solid rotation for sure. I know these guys have some getting in
shape to do, but that’s compared to (what we assume) will be the fastest
offense in the country. I’ve heard nothing but good news from the coaches on
these guys, so I think the defensive line will be a solid group. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="color: red;">Linebackers</span> –
I am still a little all over this place with the names for these LB positions. I
had it down pact when I was helping one of my friends learn the playbook, but
now I can’t remember. Anyway, I know our guys are undersized here, and that’s my
real only concern. I know these guys say heart beats talent, but I would
question: We’re they not playing with heart under coach Tuberville because they
couldn’t stop the run to save their lives? I know most would say they improved
under Coach Kaufman, and I would agree, but they fell apart in the end finishing<a href="http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/1040/p2" target="_blank"> 74th in the rush defense </a></span><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/1040/p2" target="_blank">category</a>.
I’m not here to discuss the Tuberville era, so please save the comments for
VTM. I like what coach Wally is having these guys doing anyway. I saw great
blitze combinations that were hard for the offense to pick up at times. These guys
fly around, and I do believe that though we don’t have the biggest guys, we
have guys that have something to prove. This group will be fine.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="color: red;">Defensive
Back</span> – Since I am now writing while at work, I’ll make it quick. This group is
doing well as it seems so far. We all hear the good news about Bruce. I think
he’ll be a target down field against bigger and taller WR’s, and we’ll see if
he man’s up to the challenge. This group as previous years would suggest can be
very inconsistent, so again we’ll have to see. I saw quite a few times these
guys get beat down field. (I was sorta further away and seeing the jersey
numbers was slightly difficult) so I can say who was particularly doing what.
They had refs during the practice, and we got a few pass interference calls
when the ball was thrown deep so these guys will need to do better when finding
the ball in the air. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Coach Haverty
really gets after these guys! He pretty much was on the field with these guys
(behind the safeties) yelling and coaching in between plays. I think he was
yelling at our younger guys which is expected because they haven’t fully grasp
the defense (all very normal). Both of our secondary coaches seem to still be coaching
alignment. That is very important for us DB’s if you didn’t really know. Sometimes
being too close or too far away in a particular play can lead to bad things (i.g
touchdowns). Coaches also preach alignment sometimes to confuse QB’s into to
making inaccurate checks at the line. <o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="color: red;">Penalties </span>- I mentioned we had refs at the practice, and I saw way too many penalties from both sides of the line of the ball. I know Kliff will fix that, but I did want to mention it because I know that was a problem for us last year. </span></div>

after capping his sterling college career. He left Lubbock in 2002 with 39
school, 13 conference and seven NCAA passing records, including single-game
completion percentage and career completions. It's not a stretch to say that
Kingsbury, along with Leach, helped put this program on the map in the Big 12
at the turn of century. How dear a spot does Kingsbury hold in the hearts and
minds of this fan base? I can't even begin to explain. But one word of caution:
Kingsbury has been an assistant only three years, a head coach for none, and
like a five-star freshman will be learning on the job.</i></span></div>
</blockquote>
I know many fans believe that this is wrong and that every analyst hates Texas Tech, but sometimes realization has to sweep over the South Plains. Though we could have one the best coaching staffs in due time, our coaching staff is just about unproven as our players with the exception of our head coach. We see guys like Jason Kidd talk about the transition from player to coach, and how he's taking a back seat to things right now in order to learn the ways to run the show. Yes, Kliff has been an assistant, and a great one at that, but even he himself has attested to the challenges of running a football team mixed with being an boss. Fans really have unprecedent in our new staff. Many believe that these coaches can "will" us to 8+ victories this season, but I always been preaching that at the end of the day, it is the players who need to have the accountability and dependability. A coaching staff can only do so much. No matter how great the scheme is, or how motivating the staff is for these kids, at the end of the day if our linebackers can't hold on to ball carriers or our o-line is getting out manned on the line of scrimmage, you can't blame the coaching.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><u><span style="color: red;">Where We Fall short</span></u> |</span> <i>Let's look at the facts.</i> Our O line is unproven, and there is very little chance that we see a freshman come in and make that much of difference even if they have the size. Running that uptempo offense is going to require some solid reserves though. I do believe Hayes and his assistants will coach these guys up to the best of their ability, but will that be enough? As much as we want to say that Brewer is the great next thing, I have to agree with Ubben that it's a bad sign as Brewer still hasn't drastically beat out Webb for the starting role. Now it could all be a ploy by Kliff to keep guys working hard, and staying competitive because he takes so much pride in his position, but in the same breathe, I've heard many locker room guys speak highly of Webb. I would say to a point where if they were to pick a starter, it wouldn't be a clear decision. Outside of Eric Ward, Grant, and maybe Amaro, I think this WR core is still unproven. There were way too many drop balls in the spring, and that could have been under the light jeeters, but that can't be an excuse in the coming weeks. SMU could be a cake walk, but then again, it could be something a little more.<br />
<br />
Defensively with the loss of Chris Payne due to grades, we find the coaching doing another carousel of player movement. I like the fact that these guys are being coachable and doing what is best for the team and the scheme. I know some players like Bullit have been asked to gain weight, and still be effective so everyone on this team is stepping up. Also, Austin Stewart has come down to the linebacker position. The only problem I have with Stewart is his commitment to his grades and the film room has been. Our linebacker core is small that's for sure, so we'll see if these guys can play like Chris Payne, which is, play with so much heart that it covers what they are missing in size. I do think Tuberville had the right idea by going smaller to get faster, but that was very simplest idea from an SEC minded coach.<br />
<br />
The DB cores seems to be intact as far as positions are minus the boundary corner back position, which seems to be up for grabs. I honestly think Felemi was the best out of a depth chart that lacked any real candidates, so I expect the competition to wide open from now to conference play with the addition of the freshman, and JUCO players.<br />

Sooo I promise that I will be on this more once I get settled in and figure out how everything is ran. I also promise a quick big 12 breakdown in the next day or so. Until then I leave you with this quick picture of the TTU environment.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08825967674877157098noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5439718836028516422.post-89235185837927529842013-06-26T18:34:00.000-07:002013-06-26T18:34:43.191-07:00Reviewing The Spring Game <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

center for Tech will have the opportunity to put up video game numbers
throughout the season, not only does Kingsbury have great hair and sunglasses,
but he has helped propel his past quarterbacks to un-real heights. One can only
assume that the same can be achieved at Tech. With limited playing time last
year Brewer gives off a certain excitement to him, that kind of excitement that
can only be achieved when you throw 4 td's and NO interceptions and complete
over 70 percent of your passes. Granted it was not very much to analyze and
most of it came in garbage time, but hey the dude was one for one in the bowl
game......that one pass being a touchdown! With the loss of Darren Moore that
leaves a hole in the explosive category. It's not hard to note that whomever is
QB will have to find ways to get the wide outs opportunities and will most
likely have to extend a few plays via their own feet. This is why I think that
Brewer will have the best chance to survive a thinner O-line and provide maybe
a few key mobile plays at the QB slot. Of course this is all prediction and
could very well be a 180 from what I say. This is only a quick hypothesis on
what my be expected at the reigns of the air raid. Through out the year I hope
to bring you more in depth knowledge over situations being Texas Tech until
then.....stay classy raiders.</span><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span>

we introduce an entirely new secondary. Some could argue that </span></span><a href="http://www.texastech.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/bruce_jones_810197.html" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Bruce
Jones</span></strong></a><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> is somewhat of a returning starter in the cornerback
position considering Douglas spent most of the season on the bench due to
injury. According to Texas Tech's official site, he had 6 starts out
of the 13 games he has played in. Not many numbers on the stat sheet, so you
can say he did his job and held the position down, which most would
argue he did. I know he did some rotating with Mays as well, but that's old news. Now as the starter, and I would say one the leaders of the
defense (and team), Jones has no time to be average. He'll have to be a ball hawk. He's on the short side for sure listed at 5'7
with 171 lbs on him, so there are some areas of concern. I understand now that
we have a field corner and a boundary corner in this 3-4 scheme. As it states
right now, Jones is going to be playing to the wide side of the
field making him the field corner. That corner can be of smaller size, but he has to make excellent open field tackles. It goes without saying again that
Jones will have to be more than average because every week he will be
targeted. </span></span></span><br />
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black;"><em>“He’s
got a lot of confidence,” Kingsbury said. “He’s not the biggest guy, but he’ll

<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black;">I think it's great that he
takes chances and jumps routes when he gets a feel for what he see's during the
course of the practice competitions, but that's just it - it's
practice. I cant speak on his dedication to film study or things of that
nature, but if he's one of those guys that plays instinctive, then he's either
going to be really explosive, or extremely unlucky. <o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black;">Jeremy Reynolds is playing
back up to Jones as it stands right now. I expect that a juco player or maybe
even one of our recruits from the high school level may challenge Reynolds
for the spot, but I'm getting to that. I don't know much about him, but I do
remember him being listed as hurt for most of the spring. If memory serves me
correct, he was starting on the boundary side. I'm sure there will still be
some of the type of competition.</span></span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black;"> <o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">
</span><u><span style="color: red; font-size: 24pt;">Boundary Cornerbacks </span></u><span style="color: red; font-size: 24pt;">|</span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: red;"> </span><span style="color: black;">I will be honest with you, I did not expect Olaoluwa Falemi to be the
one listed as the starting boundary cornerback, and honestly I don't know how
long that will last. Being as it is, I am still competing to make this squad,
so I've been asking about these guys, and most guys say Falemi is pretty fast.
Non of those people I've talked to were able to give me a confidence answer
as to him being able to keep the position. I think Falemi was the best of the
few, and that isn't saying much. Of course, as the boundary corner you are suppose
to be big and physical which is why Derrick Mays was the initial starter, but I
think he also suffered an injury early on in the spring. Falemi is listed at
5'9 -157, which to me isn't quite ideal for a set-the-edge type of cornerback.
Make no mistake, Falemi and I are cool. I am strictly talking football. I do
not want to doubt anyone based on size, but it is an area of concern. </span></span><br />
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">
</span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black;">As I listed earlier, Mays got
hurt early and missed out on spring, but from what I seen of him last year
(Minn Bowl Game) he has much to improve on. I think he needs to master his
footwork for the man coverage. I know this defense will be in a tampa two look
more times than not, but if you can't run man on this level, your defense will
get exposed- FAST & EARLY. More time in the film room may also be my
suggestion, but this is mostly off a few games (mostly an eye test). I expect
this battle to be wide open right now. </span></span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black;"><o:p></o:p></span></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">
</span><u><span style="color: red; font-size: 24pt;">Free Safety</span></u><span style="color: red; font-size: 24pt;"> | </span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-size: small;">Everyone that knows Texas Tech football knows that this is
undoubtedly the position that will be missed the most. I mean we had a stud in
Cody Davis, and a very solid player in D.J Johnson playing in the back of
that defense. There will be big shoes to fill, and I think this position will
make or break the defense. I have some concerns with the safety
position as it stands right now because I've seen a few times
where Jakeem was able to slip past the safeties due to them biting, or wanting
to make a play on Amaro during the </span><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBjs9ISK2mI" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color: blue; font-size: small;">spring
game</span></strong></a><span style="font-size: small;">. Offenses will sometimes bait a player right at ten
yards to freeze a safety and literally #atmo because that pause gives a WR
a chance to get wide open. Also, when players with speed like Jakeem command
safeties to respect their speed, you will see players like him go on a
go/fly/fade route to give (in this case) Amaro some room right in the zone
between the linebacker and safety to make an over the top catch. With Gaines
being the front man right now, I just hope that he is learning the disciplines
of the position. I hear that Austin Stewart is probably the better
athlete, but may lack the discipline to be a starter. I hope he gets on
track and learns to learn the importance of knowing the playbook and
watching film. Being that I played safety for 10+ years, I know all too
well that it's not an easy position to learn. I also understand the transition
period is rough mentally. All I'm saying is, it may be tough right now for
Gaines and Stewart to be what we define as perfect, but they will get
there with continuous reps and study. </span></span><o:p></o:p><br />
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">
</span><u><span style="color: red; font-size: 24pt;">Strong Safety</span></u><span style="color: red; font-size: 24pt;"> | </span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="color: black;">Last, but not least, the free safety position. Tre Porter is one
of the guys who I think has sort of locked down their position, and the battle
is for back-up. At 6' even and weighing in at 202, Porter is solid. I don't know much about his speed, especially with him being in a red
jersey all of spring. He did manage to play through his injury all spring, and
I respect him for that. Injuries happen to the best of us; ask Kobe, so for him
to want to come in and learn the system while getting the reps shows
commitment. As far as his skill set goes, last year for me, he was the Achilles
hill for this secondary at times with his lack of coverage skill at the nickel,
and also the immaturity. I recall a few times where he got beat man to
man, and instead of getting back and brushing it off, he turned around to point
blame. I don't think that's anything to be concerned with because I fully
expect this guy to be a full fledge leader; I'm just recalling my in-game eye
test opinion from last year. Overall, I look for him to be a staple in this
defense this coming season. </span><o:p></o:p></span><br />

More than one scouting report said he lacked the arm to play on the next level, and that may have been the key reason he went undrafted. I was able to talk to Seth for a quick second at the Spring Game. I personally think he was very good quaterback. I believe early in this coming season, fans will miss Seth and his leadership. Occasionally we may have outside the Big 12 write-ups if we so choose. We will break down not only positions, but also each and every 2 deep players' strengths and weaknesses. Mind you, yes I do know some of these players personally, so some of the things I (personally) will say about these guys I have said to them, and have talked to them about this coming season. They have personal and team goals in mind, some of which we will discuss, other we won't out of respect to those players. Also something to note, I will not do any "inside information". He's usually one of the first ones to post the information anyway, and to me it would be redundant to post double information. Also, something to note, I do not want a recruit to see this blog, and <span style="color: red;"><b>IN ANY WAY</b></span> sway their decision. </div>

We want to do a weekly broadcast on topics we choose to discuss. The "show" might be about 30-45 minutes. It's all up in the air, but it will happen, and I am Tim Tebow excited! </div>

I read some comments that the o-line needs some help, depth,
and Kliff and staff would be smart to play true freshmen in this position in the coming Fall. Well
I agree, but only to a certain extent. The o-line has improved significantly
from what I can tell as far as the spring allows you to. On the flip side of
that argument, I do believe neither Wally or Kliff opened the play books up as much
when compared to the Midland scrimmage, but we’ll get to that in a second. The
o line (in the Spring Game) did a very good job of picking up blitzes for the
majority of the game. Some people say that our Quaterbacks were forced to be
mobile, but I saw in many cases where they did have time and simply moved to
the left or right to make a better throw into tight coverage. Outlaw and Poet
may be much needed depth, but I am very sure Kliff and Hays will have these
guys ready by the opening of this season. I’m not one of those, “In Kliff I Trust” but I do have confidence
in this coaching staff. <o:p></o:p></div>

Quaterbacks and The QB Battle |<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
I don’t want to grill the qb’s for a poor spring game
because the playbook was very limited and it showed because the defense was all
over them. I saw the same plays ran over and over again, and if it wasn’t the
same plays, it was the same route combination ideas. I discussed the QB battle
with a friend of mine during the scrimmage, and I personally believe that QB
battle going on right now is actually hurting both Brewer and Webb like it did
for Ash and McCoy. The reason I say this is because I witnessed a few passes
that could have been thrown deep that essentially (in D1 football) were open
for at least an attempt, but instead both Brewer and Webb checked down way too
quickly and ultimately threw a bad pass. Now, I do agree that the competition
is making them better and I’m only forming this opinion off the spring game,
but I do believe that both QB’s are probably thinking too much and are scared
to make a mistake which results in some loss of big plays. It’s still very
early; I know this. If I was doing a “What to take from the Spring Game” write
up, this evaluation would be somewhat different. As it stands right now though,
we have a long way to go before we get a starting QB. BREWER IS NOT RUNNING
AWAY WITH THIS BATTLE. I know it’s peoples’ opinion, but I strongly disagree
(and I have my reasons). <o:p></o:p></div>

I know a few by name so lets get to it. Reginald dropped way
too many passes! I think being under that big crowd rattled him for the day.
Amaro played better, but not much better. He made a beast of a catch and a
touchdown, but Brewer in particular, forced a lot of passes his way. Grant “The
Dream” had a decent day overall. I don’t believe he’ll have as much success as
everyone thinks he will have in the Big 12 this year. I’m sorry folks, but he’s
no Tavon Austin, and look how people were able to lock HIM down the second part
of the season. There are some variables that go along with what I just said,
but that’s not important. Derrick Edwards had a great day. He’s not Eric Ward
or Darrin Moore, but with some more time in the weight room he could really
start to be a deep ball threat inside the 40 like Ward is and Darrin Moore was.

These guys are playing much better, but overall I still
believe these guys will be the weakness of the defense. They played very well
against average wide receivers that really aren’t yet in shape in this spring
game. Most of the time they were pretty much predicting routes (because of
limited play call), and tackling seems to still be an issue. Tre Porter just
about missed every tackle coming down hill or in the open space. I’ve made a
case time and time again about Cody Davis being one hell of a player, and now
my friends are starting to believe me. Cody was a great open field tackler and
overall General of his defense. He will be missed immensely by the fans
because I don’t think we have a safety that will be able to replicate his efficiency
and effectiveness playing safety (and partial linebacker). The cornerbacks did
a better job in the Tampa Two defense, so not too much criticism coming from me
there. Every now and again, a wide-out simply makes a better play.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
As much as I love to write, I find it hard to find the time,
and when I have the time I don’t have anything to write about.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When I first started this blog, I just knew I
would be a football walk-on at Texas Tech, and I would write about my daily
experiences. I would get to tell my story to all that would listen, and
hopefully inspire thousands of kids searching for a chance. Well, that didn’t
work out as I planned. Though the dream of being a football player is closer
than ever, I still need to make use of this blog until that time comes. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
With that being said, I decided to do a step-by-step of how
to get YOURSELF recruited. I’ve personally learned the hard way that you can’t
rely on your coaches to help you get to the next level. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
How early does the recruiting process start?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The truthful answer to this questions is, you can never
start too early. If you’re one of those guys/girls who, as a young age, has had
a favorite team or grew up as a fan of school A then reach out to them freshman
year in high school. The best thing to do is make sure someone (a parent, friend,
cool teacher) or anyone who religiously attends your games videotapes your
games. What you do is edit clips of your best plays against your opponents, and
create what the world calls a HIGHLIGHT TAPE. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>NOTE: Colleges have been known to offer kids
as early as sophomore year! </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
How do I create this highlight tape and what happens after I
create this highlight tape? </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Usually to create a highlight tape, it’s best to use the
very popular website <a href="http://hudl.com/">Hudl.com</a>. Usually your coach or school has an account with
the company and you simply need to ask your coach for access of the account to
make a <a href="http://www.hudl.com/features/highlights/" target="_blank">highlight tape.</a> They have the software and the step-by-step process to
help you. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Once you are done creating your highlight tape, gather the
link<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>and your on your way. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>What’s Next?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Okay now we need to find a way to contact coaches. Here is the step
by step with screen shot help: </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step one 1: You need to find the athletic website of the school.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf_2E_u2FmA6Ybo9diFZz8_WhyphenhyphensG-WMOBMN8nMpZOs4vgYeaqPrx0KvSW64-z9U3qHJ7dwtNh8D-n9QVfkGasWZrGgb_BXekW6e_vo6nqBxi5yUx4GwNFyiOeqEDCxpawNECGLlrFGMF4/s640/blogger-image-180924336.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf_2E_u2FmA6Ybo9diFZz8_WhyphenhyphensG-WMOBMN8nMpZOs4vgYeaqPrx0KvSW64-z9U3qHJ7dwtNh8D-n9QVfkGasWZrGgb_BXekW6e_vo6nqBxi5yUx4GwNFyiOeqEDCxpawNECGLlrFGMF4/s640/blogger-image-180924336.jpg" /></a></div>
Step 2: Usually all of the emails and phone numbers are listed in one place. In this example, you can find Texas Tech's coaches information in the "<u><b>Inside Tech</b></u>" tab.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZWn2Oyr_bFDMRCKkSn3p52781o549urJvTy3e9Y290u3-C5h_Igf-5ILDEDTbQwUpnIsH29ywbWk3HaxEgYRqKMO_E0WYZZyHsLXAjP38hNKOOZlpkhy28yG6kg6GKN0y5GP5fDIZZvg/s640/blogger-image-2133028088.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZWn2Oyr_bFDMRCKkSn3p52781o549urJvTy3e9Y290u3-C5h_Igf-5ILDEDTbQwUpnIsH29ywbWk3HaxEgYRqKMO_E0WYZZyHsLXAjP38hNKOOZlpkhy28yG6kg6GKN0y5GP5fDIZZvg/s640/blogger-image-2133028088.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 3: You want to find the tab that usually says "<b>Staff Directory</b>" or "<b>Directory</b>"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtiZL3aqZPcZ1_3elcTUJ8MPyo8mh98fNGmyMtfY83H17FLli1zWZjgFQ8emvhCgcgjMlWR2xYPh2RGzE-oG2LPgGjRks9blLOl6ZHPCCzX-TKjZERmH4zM1zM-cmdmjywi30TgROar48/s640/blogger-image--465889018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtiZL3aqZPcZ1_3elcTUJ8MPyo8mh98fNGmyMtfY83H17FLli1zWZjgFQ8emvhCgcgjMlWR2xYPh2RGzE-oG2LPgGjRks9blLOl6ZHPCCzX-TKjZERmH4zM1zM-cmdmjywi30TgROar48/s640/blogger-image--465889018.jpg" /></a></div>
Step 4: Once you find your sport, you want to find someone who is listed as administrative help. Emailing the actual coaches is a hit or miss. You want to email people who usually work as the middle person from you to the coaches. In this case I'm going to clink on the link (or coach) that says David Raih because he is listed as the person who works with high schools. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRwhAstNrWI53Jl6sBAvK2xHJ9gH7im2V6TJJwDrCaNBV6PvU8siNgFiFmyeM7cZwerzf2kOF9sb1EJ1sP3Dmu2OcGKPydnszJz9g34CVmkoyap0OHG378z_EYzc4JqygSwFLcRTTBjVk/s640/blogger-image--1396188540.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRwhAstNrWI53Jl6sBAvK2xHJ9gH7im2V6TJJwDrCaNBV6PvU8siNgFiFmyeM7cZwerzf2kOF9sb1EJ1sP3Dmu2OcGKPydnszJz9g34CVmkoyap0OHG378z_EYzc4JqygSwFLcRTTBjVk/s640/blogger-image--1396188540.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><i>A closer look </i></u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrCF2mms2oq9qGC219fEAnDJu097E2CFlVibMWOI6qxXOqTXZvjXxdAP8GFjKkbq6qhEbCMaxd78wceyXY7IJTv-1uXC4Y5dvxnO1a6OZckmP3aUJ2VEflgUB1-tEnmmYDNRBfaHD8ty4/s640/blogger-image--1500888134.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrCF2mms2oq9qGC219fEAnDJu097E2CFlVibMWOI6qxXOqTXZvjXxdAP8GFjKkbq6qhEbCMaxd78wceyXY7IJTv-1uXC4Y5dvxnO1a6OZckmP3aUJ2VEflgUB1-tEnmmYDNRBfaHD8ty4/s640/blogger-image--1500888134.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 5: Now once you click on the link (if you have the Outlook on your computer or phone) it should send you to this. Note: I am using the IPhone 5, but it should work for all smart phones. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Realize it or not, but it's been a year and you guys are still pouring out support. This is a big reason why I couldn't leave this school. Lubbock has become home to me. It was so easy to leave my last school even though I miss the hell out of my friends there. I even had a beautiful girl I had to leave behind, but I knew that it was for the best. I gave up a lot to come to Texas Tech; even the chance to be closer to my family (not talking about TCU). I debated for awhile was this the right choice and now I have my answer. No matter what happens I will always be a Red Raider.<br />

As many of you know, this is the time of the semester when it's easy to lose focus, but luckily I'm not facing too many distractions so I'll use this as one. Recently I tried out for the Texas Tech football team again and like last semester I wasn't successful. Last semester I got the "You're good, but we just don't need you" email and it hurt pretty bad even though it was better than being told you're simply not good enough. I was invited to come in the spring after my tryout, but then Coach T and staff hit the high road (or low road) and that was it. Not only did it stun the players, but the guys in my shoes were lost too because it seemed like everything was falling into place. I was so ready to come in and now it looked like I was back at square one.<br />
<br />
This time around though things were different. Much different. After not making the cut in the 6:00 am tryout, I simply thought I wasn't good enough by Coach Kliff's standards. I was pretty bummed out, hated the program, and thought that it was time to move on. I love Tech and I bleed red and black like the rest of you, but I also came here chasing a dream. This wasn't something I wanted to end with a couple of bad tries (even though many would say give up after two tryouts). So I called TCU and boy their offer to be on the team sounded extremely good! I loved the idea of being closer to home and getting to see my family all the time; especially my little two year old brother. At the time anything was sounding better than being a Tech and dealing with the politics of football when I knew in my heart, I could be great. <br />
<br />
I debated over the issue a thousand times and weighed all of my options. Long story somewhat short, I decided that I would stay at Tech and continue to do tryouts until they let me on (even out of pity). Most guys that I know called it quits after having their dreams crushed this second time around. Me on the other, I'm stubborn, and I don't give up easily at all. I declared that until God himself comes down from Heaven and says give up this dream, I'm fighting for it. I emailed coach Kliff, got on the phone with Coach Wes (track and field) and well.... here's what happened:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYCOIgZVwI2w8aOElIHDchVg11Alv8FjMfYgWSKWkQ5Qb4fAXEluyda2kpY7iSYhOqv-jHHdqg2JA4LGzijz2L_nfXGaIpXHGNYTh-X6cIJYNUiaYVsZJRrzeczUD8kFTgKprajojlY9k/s1600/image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYCOIgZVwI2w8aOElIHDchVg11Alv8FjMfYgWSKWkQ5Qb4fAXEluyda2kpY7iSYhOqv-jHHdqg2JA4LGzijz2L_nfXGaIpXHGNYTh-X6cIJYNUiaYVsZJRrzeczUD8kFTgKprajojlY9k/s400/image.png" width="225" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuLziicEbe2J9kxqfsqjMQsZk5H0WoKAlmKnNdwsbfQ5yoOug0TOCOIUGkA2AxLGMKi5y7qeB1P_hNCf8NF3wUQXR_rpaUvAUCIp6_omq8pu3u0FyYcUsIqPHVt4lwQPOI5EQTP7XKAys/s640/blogger-image--1652552197.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuLziicEbe2J9kxqfsqjMQsZk5H0WoKAlmKnNdwsbfQ5yoOug0TOCOIUGkA2AxLGMKi5y7qeB1P_hNCf8NF3wUQXR_rpaUvAUCIp6_omq8pu3u0FyYcUsIqPHVt4lwQPOI5EQTP7XKAys/s400/blogger-image--1652552197.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm very excited to hear this from the football coaches, but of course it's all conditional. I'm confident I will be on this team in the Fall. I cannot release information as to why because right now it's all speculation. Right now I'm going to continue training, get back into shape, and continue to stay ready. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And as far as track and field is concerned, I have been in talks with Coach Wes. He has agreed to let me run starting next season. I would likely run the hurdles and maybe the 400. I'm not sure, but anyway I am grateful for the opportunity.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I just have to stay hungry! </div>

write that I should be doing this more but the school year is coming to an end
and now I have nothing really to keep me from my poor little site. After today I
seriously had to take some time and write about what I believe is in order for
this Texas Tech program.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span lang="EN" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Today after reading
opinions from tired, worn-out, depressed fans, I believe that it is time for
change. Do I believe firing Coach T is the right answer? I don’t think I’m
educated enough to make that true answer because there are a lot of variables
that could and will go into play. The names that have been thrown out there are
some names that I could agree with (as far as replacing Tubs) but what if we
don’t get those coaches, then what. We are stuck with some coach we never
thought we would end up with, and who is to say that he doesn’t create much
change in this program? You know what that ends up doing? You said it. SETTING
THE PROGRAM FURTHER AND FURTHER BACK. I agree in the sense that maybe Coach T is
not the motivating force we need, and maybe he doesn’t take enough blame. Maybe
he doesn’t fit in the Big12 or is not the innovating coach needed to create
change in the Big 12 (though I do not see much change needed). No matter what
the opinion is from the congregation, I think we all can agree that we need
change in this program. Football is where the money is! If the overall mood from
the fans is that they want a new HC, then Hocutt has to put feelings aside and
ultimately do what’s best for this program (as far as selling seats, getting
media attention, and ect….). </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">

</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span lang="EN" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Now of course, we need to
take in consideration recruiting, players already established, and other
vairables. Since, once again stated, I have no life, I will take a look into all
of that now. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">

</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span lang="EN" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The general comparison
between our two recent coaches is that as far as recruiting was concerned, Tubs
is a clearly better at recruiting. But as we all know from some recent years at
Texas, if you can COACH this recruits, then their wasted talent. Leach was known
for being able to do more with less and we seen some promising years under Leach
(like him or not). Tubs has been able to get some “quick fixes” in, but I
personally have not seen their value. Yes I am talking about mainly at the
defensive back position (and Will Smith). For the better part of two recruiting
seasons, I have questioned a lot of this coaching staff’s reasoning behind
players that don’t seem to have done much of anything on the high school or Juco
level. Granted I understand they have recruited guys multi-position talented,
but is that all we are looking for? Another thing, until we can beat teams
consistently like Texas, Oklahoma state, Oklahoma, and TCU, we WILL NEVER win
those recruits. Those guys (previous teams just mentioned) steal each other
recruits all the time. Where is Tech in that mix? </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">

</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span lang="EN" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Well we all know about the
end of the year review between coaches and players. I wonder what they will say.
I wonder how the seniors feel. Like I said before, I’ve been able to talk to
many players about this team’s coaching staff and I continue to hear praises
about this defensive staff (brought in by Tubs), but never any praises about
this offensive staff. You know what I hear about them? Inconsistent, soft, give
up at times, horrible play calling, excuses, and the list goes on. Is that the
simple fix? A new coordinator with more experience does sound like common sense,
but would he have control over this offense or does Coach T undermines his
ideas? I know he tried it with Coach Kaufman, but I think Kaufman is too much of
a bad ass to be undermined, and for most of the season, his way has worked!

<span style="font-size: small;">I seriously
wish I had time to do this more, but I lack anything interesting to write about.
I would like to study the Big 12 more and do my own previews of the teams, but I’m
seriously starting to think I have an addiction to football. It clouds my mind.
I am constantly reading articles and stats on various teams, staying up-to-date
with what’s going on with Texas Tech etc.. It’s not healthy in a way because I am
not currently a football player, but I justify my actions by telling myself
that I will need these study skills next year when I am in my first Big 12 game
as the starting cornerback. Some of you may laugh. Don’t worry, I wont get
upset. I’m what they call the dreamchaser. The term doesn’t quite mean what
you think it does because dreamchasers such as myself go through a little bit more adversity
than the norm. Most people have goals, and go about them objectively with
strategic planning. BUT, a dreamchaser has no plan, has no foreseeable future. He/she only
futures a dream where all of the blood sweat and tears have finally paid off
and they stand on top of the world screaming “Yes, I have finally MADE IT!” The
difference between those with goals and dreamchasers is when your determination
goes from just that to an insanity level. You treat this dream you have like
some addition that you cannot get rid of. You live for it and without it—well there
is NO WITHOUT IT—because without this accomplished dream, there is no you. Some
people reading this, may be bored, confused, trying to find some point, but
truthfully there is no real point. I, as always, am just telling you guys a little
more about myself every time I write. </span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
It has been awhile! </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Truthfully, I really had to let things works themselves out after the rather disappointing results of the tryouts. Like I
said before, I’m not too upset about it because this time around, I know what
to expect, and for the next 5 months, my training will be based upon what we
were asked to do that day. Speed is always the dominating factor now-a-days, so
there is the starting point. The main goal is to maintain footwork and get
faster. I am not very concerned with bulking up as that usually slows you down,
so once I am in the program, I’ll let them go from there. I just started
getting back in the groove of things as far as training. I lost some strength
in areas, but 5 months is a long time to get back where I need to be. I have to stay dedicated to what I am
trying to do, and that is not always easy. We all have those things in our lives that make us question whether or not it's all worth it. Me personally, mental exhaustion has always been the hardest thing to conquer at times. God has given me another chance though to make my dreams a reality, so I have NO TIME to waste in front of the t.v or ps3. Time flies by too fast and I cannot imagine looking back on life and saying I did not give my all. All-in-all, I’m going to stay prayerful
and build off of my faith because at the end of the day: that’s all you have. <o:p></o:p></div>

I recently agreed to do intramural football with a friend who is building a team. Basically it will be 7-on-7. I really went against my normal judgment with
this because I always made fun of those doing intramurals in high school. Now
that the tables have turned, I have to not only eat my own words, but be
understanding in how this could help me down the road. It will definitely be an
experience, but I know God wouldn’t have put it in front of me, unless it would
benefit me. <o:p></o:p></div>

They have not set an official date, but told me to be prepared in January. My personal trainer and I will be working from a distance as we try to increase my speed and maintain my footwork. I plan to make best friends with my ladder I just bought! <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Also I reached out to the track and field department, and Coach Kittley may be giving me an opportunity to walk-on this coming season. Nothing is written in stone of course and I do not want to get my hopes up again. I will continue to train and work hard to stay in shape. That is all I can do.</div>

I will tryout again in the spring. This time around, I will know what to expect and hopefully have a competitive advantage over the others. I plan to continue to train and fix certain weaknesses I believe I have. I really don't have much to say besides that.<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I just wanted to update you guys, and make this more of a personal blog, rather than trying to imitate double t nation.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Like I wrote on double t nation, my first day was awesome. I attended fan day, and was able to meet some of the guys that I've heard so much about. ( It's like finally getting to meet your favorite celebrity). Deandre Washington and Tyson Williams are good friends of mine, and they were excited to see me officially in Lubbock. Word got around rather quickly about me walking on (do not really know how), but overall most players were really cool. I got to eat with the players and get a taste of that D1 life! Let me just say, it was much more elaborate than anything I've experienced. I got to see the inside of the facilities, and meet Cody Davis. Yikes! He is much taller in person than I imagined! He towers over me, and truthfully I was a little hurt. I'm a tad bit sensitive over my height. After that, me and Tyson really sat and talked about his experiences and what it took for him to make it where he is today. I believe I can do this, and dammit I AM READY. After TTU let me watch their practice, I noticed how familiar I was with their rules and technique. I know at this point I will be a red shirt walk-on, and I am very content with that. A year under this program (granted the coaches will still be there) will only make better prepared for a very serious and competitive spring. All-in-all, I just want to get to Monday, and turn some heads! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
At the end of the day, I just have to stay hungry! </div>

I guess it’s true when they say the early bird gets the worm! Seth gave me a great compliment yesterday when he checked out my blog, and honestly, it felt awesome to know that I'm headed in the right direction.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: center;"><br /></span></div>

<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">With that being said, what I will do today though, is continue my own preview of each team and how I feel Tech will fare against each team. Note: These are my thoughts backed up with a little research and a personal analysis.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC3aUFAEBSu-Lq_3N85oejw7wr8RylegpcE9jOoycdydXb0ii1zlOZ9PeHZFhmlvPLn4ZaJXy3cG-z4Mim_L84773r60DeJnMOht2MJIW-3QHWAeYRHEUilck_nGoDflb396tUYb9iUuE/s1600/GYI0062074014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC3aUFAEBSu-Lq_3N85oejw7wr8RylegpcE9jOoycdydXb0ii1zlOZ9PeHZFhmlvPLn4ZaJXy3cG-z4Mim_L84773r60DeJnMOht2MJIW-3QHWAeYRHEUilck_nGoDflb396tUYb9iUuE/s320/GYI0062074014.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Random start, but two of my little brothers from my high school committed to TCU and this will be their first year in the program. I hope the best for those guys; Deante Gray and Bejamin Catalon III. By now, I assume everyone knows about the drug ‘scandal’ that hit TCU’s football program. If you do not, according to an article by <span style="color: red;"><a href="http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/02/15/3738715/tcu-players-describe-widespread.html"><span style="color: red;">Stefan Stevenson</span></a>,</span> 82 players tested positive for some type of drug use. I won’t get into all of that, but note that even starting QB <a href="http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/sports/Report-TCU-Starting-QB-Admitted-to-Drug-Use-164944506.html"><span style="color: red;">Casey Pachall</span></a> has recently admitted to drug use as well. I wonder what the program will do to him as far as punishment is concerned since other players were removed from the team and school. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Assuming that he will be apart of the program, I suggest Texas Tech to not sleep on this team even with the concerns that TCU face at certain positions. They have a solid running game with a double headed dragon at the running back position. RB Waymon James (875 yards and 6 touchdowns) and Matthew Tucker (702 yards and 12 touchdowns) will be more than ready to make up for the loss of former RB Ed Wesley, who averaged 6.43 yards a carry in his 4 years with TCU. QB Casey Pachall had a solid season last year, and we can only expect improvement. I personally don’t believe his recent confession about his drug usage will effect his preparation for this coming season. He has a career average completion rate of 66.4% and in 2011 threw for just under 3,000 yards. They also have 2 returning wide receivers with impressive stats, so there's that. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One of the problems that TCU face offensively will be a relatively new offensive line. Only two players are returning according Seth. They have OG Blaize Foltz and C James Fry coming back this year. Coach Anderson and Burns both have extremely creditable resumes, so I want to chalk this problem up as a semi-major concern (if that’s even a measurement). Also, the young secondary may cause issues for TCU. 3 out of the 5 starting DB's will be underclassman this year and Texas Tech has already shown great depth at the WR, RB, and in my opinion, QB positions. I think we'll give that 'mastered' 4-2-5 defense a run for its money. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />Overall, with the latest developments about Tech's secondary improving, and the d-line finding its new identity, I believe this game is definitely winnable. Hopefully, as an added bonus, TCU will be distracted that week considering it is their homecoming. Being an athlete myself, I know all to well the negative effect homecoming week can have on your teams preparations. I know it's college football, and that shouldn't be a problem. Hey, just don't put anything above us athletes. Homecoming can either really add to your game, or dramatically take away from your focus.<br /><br /><span style="background-color: red;">Progress</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well today was another hardworking day with the trainer, but today was more mental. My trainer kicked my butt with the workout, and after fighting past the pain, I asked myself, "Is it all worth it." You may or may not understand why I asked myself that, and if you don't, then let me explain. My environment does not allow me to only focus on training for football. I have other obligations. There are times when I get more mentally beat down than anything. Today, I did not feel 110% and (to me) it showed during my (resistance) workout today. I had a heart check basically, and I had about 30 seconds to make the decision on whether or not to continue down this road. Good news for you supporters, it only took me 10 seconds to line back up on the field and continue my drills. Yes, I faltered for a second ( I believe we all do) but I was taught too early in life, that if you want to be the best, "you have to be willing to sweat blood and suck up tears." (Mom) </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So I will make one promise on this blog. I will never stop or quit on my dreams (athletically or academically). God has brought me too far, and at the end of the day, I want my family to be proud of me. </span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Good Morning Red Raider Nation,<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
First off, I want to thank God for another day. I have a
mentality that “NO day is promised”, so I try to give a 110% effort in
everything I do. I don’t know how late I
am on this, but I finally have a <i>depth chart</i> to look at, even though thanks to <a href="http://doubletnation.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: red;">Double T</span></a>, I pretty much knew who was where.<span style="color: red;"><a href="http://texastech.rivals.com/cdepthtext.asp?sid=&Player=417365&Sport=1&Year=" target="_blank"><span style="color: red;"> (Texas Tech depth chart)</span></a>
</span>Anyway, I read an article by<a href="http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2012/08/previewing-texas-tech-why-red-raiders-wont-finish-above-500.html/" target="_blank"> </a><a href="http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2012/08/previewing-texas-tech-why-red-raiders-wont-finish-above-500.html/" target="_blank"><span style="color: red;">SportsdayDFW Sports</span></a> that predicted TTU finishing 6-6.
Either Mike Heika has high hopes for other teams, or he's really down on Tech.
I see a team with a great offense, and massive depth (on offense). There are
some issues that need to cleaned up, but overall, I see Tech (as of right now)
winning 8+ games. Note: I will not speak on the defense until I do some more evaluations. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: red;">CONFERENCE PREVIEW/ EVALUATIONS</span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: red;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I am not going to be as detailed as true bloggers about
each team, but I will do a summary of each and how I think TTU will fair
against each squad.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<u>IOWA STATE</u><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<u><br /></u></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Simply put: If we lose to Iowa State again, even if the
score is 3-0, I expect to be playing for a new coaching staff the following
year. After that downfall last year, I hope our Raiders will come out
swinging. This also comes after a bye
week, so the Raiders will be completely fresh and have two weeks to evaluate
these guys! ITS IOWA STATE!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<u>OKLAHOMA </u><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Personally I don’t know how solid Laundry Jones is. He fell
apart last year and didn’t seem to really find his rhythm as the leader and QB
of this team. I expect this game to be a complete blood battle. Overall,
because Tuberville has stressed the importance of “winning at home”, I expect
this game to be a close win or lose. The
defense ALL AROUND will be tested this game. They have a solid running game and
I expect Laundry will be better. (Oklahoma wins by 14) <br />
<br />
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<u>WEST VIRGINIA </u><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I have a best friend that loves this team more than life
itself. I think WV will have a shaky first year in this league. Though overall,
they are a solid football team. They have great system in place and a solid
offense. I haven’t heard much about their defense, but that’s my fault. Their coaching staff will have them ready, but
I think they cruised for too long in the Big East. Dan Holgorsen, previous
Texas Tech coach, and new defensive coordinator, Joe DeForest have their work
cut out for them. Their defensive will have the most proving to do. I am pretty
sure they recruited players that are best suited for the 3-3-5, so now a switch
in defense calls for a quick adjustment in players and philosophy. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<i>"There are more snaps [per game in the Big 12], so you're going to
play more people," said Holgorsen. "West Virginia hasn't really
played freshmen, but we're going to need to. ... We're going to need more
bodies. ... (Holgorsen)<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
For now that’s where I stop. I
feel like I am writing a college paper, and that bothers me. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: red;">Progression </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I worked out with my trainer this
morning and together we worked on conditioning and explosion. I also got a
lesson in foot work. My trainer exposed one my flaws today in my footwork, and
now it’s a matter of muscle memory. (Being able to cut off both feet). It’s a
minor setback, if you want to call it that. I have two weeks, so I am not too
concerned.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
At the end of the day, I have to stay hungry! <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
If you don’t know Cody Davis, the
guy I look up to, then here is a preview. <o:p></o:p></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I was told by one of my favorite blog writers that I need to update my blog everyday in order to get my message across. So from here on out, I will be finding something informative to write about everyday. I still want to tell my story to you guys. Younger athletes, do not make the same mistakes I have made in past (on the field and in life). Football is not only suppose teach you how to win a football game, but it should teach you the importance of growth and maturity. I will post my story soon, but I warn you, it may be a lengthy read. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><span style="background-color: red;"><u style="color: red;"> </u>RANDOM NEWS & OPINIONS</span><span style="background-color: red; color: red; text-decoration: underline;"> </span><span style="background-color: red;"> </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As stated before, I get a bulk of my information from the <span style="color: red;"><a href="http://doubletnation.com/" target="_blank">Double-T Nation website</a></span>. The awesome writers for this website really keep me informed on the latest news from the football department. I already feel a bit behind since I am missing camp. August 27th is the walk-on tryout date. Hopefully, because they run a very seemingly easy defense, I'll be able to pick up on the system very quickly</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">With the defensive back group still struggling, I really hope to come in and contribute sooner than later. As it stands right now, I have a red shirt year available, and 3 years left on the field. There will be some adjustment of course, I know. I came from a very small NAIA school.With that being said though, I do not plan on simply being a kid with a jersey. I am coming to Texas Tech to become a solid starter. I am not arrogant, or making any promises to you guys, but take note. My goal is to be the best defensive back that graduated from Texas Tech University. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">----Here is a link to my highlight tape. Like I said on Double T Nation, I welcome all feedback! I am my hardest critic.</span><br />

<span style="background-color: red;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">MY PROGRESS </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />I've been training on and off this past week which really upsets me because one of my biggest problems is consistency. I need to work on being committed 110% and not 98%. If you know football, THAT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE. Anyway, workouts overall have been going great. I think my strengths will be speed, and footwork. I will continue to work on my hands, though it would be nice if I could find someone in Houston to throw me the ball. I will be in Lubbock officially next Saturday. DO NOT be surprised if you see a black kid (not wearing a shirt) running around Lubbock. Conditioning will be key to my success, so I will be out there still grinding it out</span>! </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I stumbled upon a great website this summer called <a href="http://www.doubletnation.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: red;">Double T- Nation</span></a>. I love talking football and this is the place where I get my information. (Mostly Texas Tech Athletics). My user name on the site is <a href="http://www.doubletnation.com/2012/7/11/3151937/for-a-walk-on-hopeful" target="_blank"><span style="color: red;">charrisTTU</span></a>. The main author I follow, <a href="http://www.doubletnation.com/2007/7/8/235415/6376" style="color: red;" target="_blank">Seth C</a>, has great articles about what's going on with Texas Tech athletics as well as other programs in the Big 12. I find his articles very informative to read and I believe you will as well. The website includes a fan section where you can control the discussion. Whether it be comments, concerns, or things you just want to talk about, this website is great for getting other's opinion on the matter.</div>
